About Food Transparency

The story behind the founding of Le Foöd is actually a bit of a happy accident (laughs). Our founder, Nong, didn’t study anything related to food or business in college. However, living abroad opened her eyes to the wide world of food. It also led to her love for exploring grocery stores—whether it’s regular supermarkets, organic stores, boutique markets, or farmers' markets—she couldn’t pass them up! Whenever she traveled, she made sure to visit local supermarkets, traditional markets, and restaurants—basically, anywhere food could be found. It's clear she's someone who really loves food.

While studying abroad, Nong traveled whenever she had the chance, exploring cities and countries and immersing herself in local cultures. She loved experiencing new places and trying local foods, and each experience was both fun and meaningful. It taught her to embrace all possibilities, not limit herself, and stay open-minded. This optimistic attitude helped her gain a more relaxed approach to life, letting go of small worries and focusing more on appreciating what she has.

Concern for the ingredients in our food should be second nature. We should all care about what we put into our bodies and have the right to know exactly what’s behind the products we consume. That’s why at Le Foöd, we’re committed to keeping things simple: no additives, with ingredient labels that are clear and easy to understand. It’s a basic way we show respect for our customers’ health. Nong has always believed that we should listen to what our bodies tell us. Our bodies react to the food we eat—eating something unhealthy can make us feel bad physically and emotionally, while eating natural, nutritious foods lifts our spirits and helps our bodies thrive. It might sound a bit abstract, but if we pay attention, we can really feel the difference.

Nong knows that, despite efforts to improve food safety policies in Taiwan, concerns about food safety still linger. That’s exactly why Le Foöd is all about being transparent and natural. We believe manufacturers should be responsible for what they make, and consumers should be able to trust the safety of their food. By keeping our ingredient labels clear and straightforward, we’re working to build trust between the people who make the food and those who eat it.

 

Looking ahead, we hope to introduce even more whole food products that allow people to eat with full transparency. Our goal is for you to know exactly what you're eating, without getting lost in the confusing chemical jargon or additives. We want everyone to enjoy the real beauty of food—bringing joy to both your mouth and your body.

 

After returning to Taiwan and working in the food industry, Nong felt that the food sector there had a lot of room for improvement. Having always preferred natural foods and the nutritional value of whole foods, she believed that food could taste great without the need for additives. This belief led to her decision to start her own business, especially after witnessing a food safety scandal in Taiwan. Around the same time, she was transitioning into a new job and began dreaming of bringing global food trends to Taiwan—basically, becoming a “food translator.” With the rise of organic and additive-free food movements around the world, more people in Taiwan were beginning to care about what they were putting into their bodies. And so, in this environment, Le Foöd was born.
